Fernando's Story

Life After my Senior High School Year at Carmel High School, NY (a wonderful and unforgetable experience for a 15 year old chosen Exchange Student from my High School in Lima), I came back to the country where I was born (Peru)and went to college at the Catholic University. In 1971 I made a very important choice for myself: I left the modern piano for the ancient keyboard instruments. Prof. Lola Odiaga (Yale University)was for me a very important person who had to do very much with this decision. Then, with a scholarship from the "Kultusministerium" from Austria, I went to Vienna, where I studied at the "Hochschule für Musik" (Harpsichord) and at the "Universität Wien" (1972-1974). I came back to Peru and undertook graduate studies at the same University, where I graduate in Philosophy with a Thesis on Presocratic Philosophy (1978). Then, again with a scholarship (this time from the german DAAD), I returned to Europe (Germany), where I studied at the Heidelberg University Philology (Classical and Roman), Philosophy and Musicology (1979-1982) and obtained my degree of Dr. phil. I worked also as a Researcher at the "Romanisches Seminar", after winning another Contest there. I also was a student there at the "Hochschule für Jüdische Studien" and a sort of "Lehrling" at Reiner Schütze's Harpsichord Atelier. 1980 marked a very important change in my life: I went as a student to Sienna, Italy, at the "Università degli Studi" and at the "Accademia Musicale Chigiana" (here I was a listening student in 1980 with Gustav Leonhardt a...Expand for more
nd in 1982 a participating student (chosen) with Kenneth Gilbert); there I discovered (and for good!)my latin and mediterranean origins: Italy, Spain, France and Portugal. Then, I won a Public Contest and became a Teacher at the University of Florence (Italy) (1982-1986). In 1986 I won another Public Contest and became an Official of the European Union at the European Parlament as Official Translator. I never left Music (Harpsichord, Clavichord, early keyboard instruments), although, 1982 asisting to Master Classes in "Tage Alter Musik" in Herne (Germany) (this time with Ralph Kirkpatrick!) and at the mentioned "Accademia Chigiana" Master Classes. While working as a Translator at the EP, I was also once again a sort of "Lehrling" at Reinhard von Nagel's Harpsichord Atelier at Paris. In 1991 I assisted to a Master Class offered by Rosalyn Tureck at Florence's "Accademia Bartolomeo Cristofori - Amici del Fortepiano". In 1992 I had to return to Peru because of family reasons, where I am still living. I have lost many addresses because the HD of my PC has colapsed at least twice. I would really be greatful to my wonderful old friend if they would help me in the reconstruction of my Contact List: my friends. I have never forgotten the outstanding, wonderful people I met at Carmel High School, NY, and I would very much like to get again in touch with my old friends and the classmates with whom I had acquaintance with being at Carmel High School, NY. Thank you very much for your kind interest and help in this rather difficult task!
